My weight loss journey is finally underway.  I’ve started the pre-
op diet and getting my mindset moving towards the new way of eating and drinking that I am going to have to get used to.
I’m nervous and excited all at the same time.  Nervous, major surgery is always kind of scary, but excited to move on to this new phase of my life.  To actually envision myself LIVING life instead of feeling tired, unable and self-conscious about my weight.
I’ve wanted to do this surgery for years but for one reason or another, it just never came to pass.  At least not until last November.  Then it all happened very quickly – then slowed down again as I met my health insurance requirements for approval of the surgery.  Seven long months to be exact.  But well worth the wait.  I made the commitment and kept true to myself and what I wanted.

If my surgeon had said “you need to lose 20 pounds before I’ll approve you,” I’d have done whatever I had to do to lose the weight.  All they want is a commitment from you.  That’s it.  Not lose all the weight you have to, but just show some commitment to the long term process.  I’d be embarrassed if I couldn’t do at least that to show some level of seriousness to my weight loss.  Fortunately, my insurance carrier does all the work.  I got a list of what I needed to do and had so much time to do them.
And that is where I find myself now.  I’ve had all the tests, scopes, counseling and nutritional education. I’m ready.  At least in my mind I’m ready.  As the surgery date draws closer, I daydream a lot about what it’s going to be like – how hard but also rewarding to be the same on the outside as I’ve always thought of myself on the inside.

I’m drinking the suggested protein shakes – not unbearable but it will take some getting used to.  Once I’ve progressed enough, modifying and adding to them will help improve the taste a lot.  Water, water, water.  Thank goodness I love water.  I’ve given up coffee – major aspect to my morning.  I’ve also ceased all soda.  I won’t ever be able to handle soda post-op, so off it goes.
Today’s goal – remember not to drink anything 30 minutes prior and 30 minutes after a meal.  It’s harder than you think!!  LOL

Nine days and counting.

Stay strong on whatever path you find yourselves on.
